Video: Origins of Kidpower and Introducing Doing Right by Our Kids

Our goal with Doing Right by Our Kids is to protect and promote child safety at all levels of society. We start with what parents and kids can do, then add on schools, sports teams, community groups, faith-based organizations, and walk up the ladder of change all the way to laws that protect us all.

Project co-creator Irene van der Zande and I have made a series of short videos to introduce our work and to share specific skills. We’ll post them here periodically. The first video in the series tells the story of the origins of Irene’s organization Kidpower, back in 1989, and how I got involved in child safety education, and what we plan to accomplish with this new research project. Find out what we mean by “climbing a ladder of change, to create a culture of safety.”

Thanks for joining us in this mission! I am truly honored to be working with Irene, who has more than twenty years experience in teaching personal safety to kids and families in a positive, effective, success-based method. She has also consulted extensively with many organizations, so she has the expertise to talk about safety at each level of society. Kidpower has educated more than two million people worldwide in their truly global outreach.
